【Eager for more seniors to get a more suitable travel pattern】 According to the United Nations World Health Organization (W.H.O), "the proportion of the elderly over 65 years of age in the total population of 20% is a super-aged society". As of June 2020, Taiwan's population aged 65 years is overreached to 3.69 million (15.67%). According to Taiwan's current growth trend of aging, 2025 is about to move towards a super-aged society. We must face up to the fact that the average age of the Taiwanese population is no longer young. The principal investigator, associate professor Su, Tzu-Hsin believes that it is necessary to create a set of personalized wellness tourism plans for the senior and to design activities from the "wellness" perspective. We have to integrate wellness assessments, wellness eating, wellness lectures, DIY experience courses, and other modules so that the senior can play safely and healthily. Professor Su and his staff is planning to implement a placemaking service system for senior wellness tourism in the Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area. The Ministry of Transportation and Communications is just right looking to promote the transformation of domestic tourism. Therefore, in the post-epidemic era, there was even more need to develop a high value-added wellness tourism model for the senior to find a high-quality theme journey in domestic tourism. 【From theory to practice and work with the industry to create placemaking】 At first, Professor Su wanted to build an ideal wellness tourism living district for seniors and execute many "healthy aging" plans in Fooyin. With several practical experiences, Professor Su got an opportunity to participate in the plan of University Social Responsibility and selected Dapeng Bay with rich ecological resources to develop “A Placemaking Service System for Senior Wellness Tourism in the Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area”. Though there were many unique lagoon backdrops and rich ecological recreation landscapes in the Dapeng Bay those were better than the surrounding well-known tourist attractions. However, the number of tourists was gradually decreasing. To make matters worse, the BOT manufacturer, Dapeng Bay International Development Company, terminated the BOT contract with the Dapeng Bay Scenic Area Management Office in 2019. Professor Su planned to help Dapeng Bay repositioning, pay attention to the new tourist tide, and achieve the ideal goal placed on his heart. Therefore, Professor Su and his team stepped out of the campus, ventured into the Dapeng Bay and Liuqiu District, to search for a high-quality wellness tourism service for seniors. We held the "2020 Senior Wellness Tourism Cooperation Summit" with the Dapeng Bay and Liuqiu District associations and excellent business firms on June 24, 2020. So far, we have already signed 17 Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) of the wellness tourism convention. 【Wellness Life Steward helps seniors to play more fun and enjoyable】 To cultivate the talents needed for the wellness tourism of living district in the Dapeng Bay Scenic Area, we will set up a micro-course of "Senior Wellness Tourism" in Fooyin University and hold several senior wellness tourism forums. The students will have the basic knowledge necessary for senior wellness tourism, including wellness assessment analysis, wellness activity design, wellness tour guide roles, wellness catering services, etc. To cultivate students' enthusiasm for serving the senior, Professor Su also set up a wellness tourism volunteer team and led these trained wellness life stewards to participate in various wellness tourism trips. As a result, these wellness life stewards are full of high hopes for returning to the local area and re-building value. 【Travel with the senior and create value in life】 With six months' worth of efforts, the "first tour" three days and two nights of wellness tourism of experience activities was launched from August 18 to August 20, 2020. This journey combined the health profession’s image of the Fooyin University with the abundant medical resources of the Fooyin affiliated Hospital to provide the senior with high-quality "Health 99" health examination services. Professor Su and his staff even arranged doctors, dietitians, physical therapists, and other professionals to share health and nutrition knowledge. Then the team developed an in-depth tourism content with the “wellness theme” and integrated this tourism event in together with the local elements of Donggang/Liuqiu Districts. Those provided all kinds of leisure activities with valuable wellness experiences, such as: designing the fishing port culture as a "Mommy Life" experience, allowing seniors to enjoy fresh and nutritious experiences through buying seafood by themselves, cooking food using less oil, less salt, and less sugar in the natural, local, traditional restaurants; Liuqiu Island Culture was packaged into a "Round Island Talking" activity unit, which was led by a professional tour guide who shared about the whole island commentary and intertidal zone experience so that seniors can close to the beauty of natural culture; The Journey of the “Mind Trip”, which describes your hands with excellent things in visual art and guides seniors to share deep discussions about the past, present, and future. Then in September and October, we will complete a variety of thematic activities of the wellness tourism experiences, so that seniors can experience the new value of wellness tourism from the body to the mind. 【Open a new chapter in wellness tourism】 In the future, the entire team hopes that the valuable experience of the senior wellness tourism will be successfully replicated to every journey in the future so that the "high-quality" senior wellness tourism model can operate sustainably and reposition the Dapeng Bay Scenic Area as "The premium wellness tourism living district for seniors in Taiwan". Professor Su and his team are also committed to extending the successful experience of the Dapeng Bay Scenic Area to other regions as a new model of wellness tourism for the senior.
